Insert batteries supplied by respecting correct polarity. Batteries with rever-
sed polarity can lead to instrument destruction. Furthermore, they may ex-
plode or ignite.
Prior to putting the instrument into service, insert the batteries. The refe-
rences as described in technical data section with respect to handling batte-
ries must be fulfilled.
Avoid any heating up of the instrument by direct sunlight to ensure perfect
functioning and long instrument life.
3.1

Appropriate Usage

The instrument may only be used under those conditions and for those pur-
poses for which it was conceived. For this reason, in particular the safety re-
ferences, the technical data including environmental conditions and the
usage in dry environments must be followed.
When modifying or changing the instrument, the operational safety is no lon-
ger ensured.

Preparation for Operation

1.) Capacitor microphone
2.) LCD
3.) On/ off switch: after switching on, the current software version is briefly dis-
played..
4.) A/C: Selecting the evaluation filter
Due to the fact that within its frequency range the microphone consistently re-
cords the sound pressure, contrary to the human ear, the frequency evaluati-
on of the human ear must be simulated within the measurement instrument by
an additional filter. For the A-evaluation, which approximatively reproduces the
sensitivity curve of the ear for the noise levels, e.g. the frequency range for 100
Hz is attenuated by 20 decibels, whereas the sound within the frequency range
of 1000 Hz remains unaffected. The evaluation in accordance with the C curve
is more appropriate for very loud noises or for low frequency noises.
5.) FAST/ SLOW selection key
Selection of time evaluation:
FAST: 125ms for signal rise or drop
SLOW: 1s for signal rise or drop
=> i.e. The calculation of the incoming sound signals is performed over a time
period of 125 ms or 1 s, respectively.
The sound level meter physically approximates the human ear the closest (time
aspect) when choosing type of evaluation "FAST" .
