The fundamental characteristic of this design is that the airspace
inside the cabinet is connected to the outside air via a tunnel, or
duct.
If this design is adopted, the cabinet, the duct and the chassis
parameters must be very carefully selected and matched,
otherwise an audible reduction in quality will occur in terms of
membrane overshoot and bad transient behaviour of the system.
However, if these factors are correctly harmonised and efficiently
matched to each other, this type of speaker can provide a lower
cut-off frequency and a smaller membrane deflection at the
resonant frequency.
