1. Set the rotary selector to the diode position.
2. Plug the black test lead into your meter's COM terminal and
the red test lead into your meter's V//Hz/-terminal.
3. Connect the test leads to the diode you want to check and
note the meter reading.
Notes:
*
When a measured value is displayed in the LCD display,
e.g. 0.2 for a germanium diode or 0.5 for a silicon diode, the
diode is continuous. Change polarity of the test leads to
check the reverse direction. Now if overflow is displayed, the
diode is good.
At overflow indicator "OL" in the display the diode is
*
defective or the test leads are reversed. If after polarity
reversal of the test leads a value is displayed, the diode is
continuous and fine. The displayed value corresponds to the
forward voltage of the device (up to 2.0 V).
*
If a measurement value is displayed both before and after
swapping the polarity, the diode is short-circuited and the
component is defective.
*
If the Overflow display "OL" is displayed always, the
component is defective or the test leads have no contact.
When you connect the diode to the meter and the meter displays
the devices forward voltage, the red test lead is connect to the
diodes anode, and the black test lead is connected to the diode's
cathode. This meter supplies enough forward voltage to light
most LED´s. However, if the LED's forward voltage is greater
than 2.0 volts, the meter incorrectly indicates that the device is
open.
