phases (see programme overview). Modulation is the
course of a stimulation pulse over a period of time.
A distinction is made between:
rise time
(duration until maximum current flow is achieved)
working time (maximum current flow is available)
fall time (duration until no more current flows)
and pause time (no current flow).
With this breakdown into different times it is possible
to adapt optimally to different physical conditions, that
is, the natural processes in the muscle are stimulated.
The rise time serves as a preparation for the muscula-
ture in the sense of a pre-tensing. During the working
time the tension of the muscle is maintained at a
constant level. The pause time is particularly impor-
tant. It is common knowledge that muscles need time
to recover from strenuous use. This must also be taken
into consideration during electro stimulation. Following
application of the electrodes the device is switched on
and the current strength slowly regulated upwards,
with a tangible muscular response, without this being
uncomfortable or painful.
Muscle stimulation under medical conditions:
Inactivity atrophy following long periods of
immobility of limbs or other parts of the body
Muscular atrophy due to myopathy
