Knee joint problems
Programme 1, 2
Common causes of problems in the knee joints are
damage to the meniscus or the articulate cartilage. One
proven electrode application is to place the electrodes
on the interior and exterior sides of the knee (see fig.
15). If there is a particular point of pain, such as the
rear knee joint crease, then one of the electrodes may
also be applied there. If both knees are painful, they
may be treated simultaneously using the two channels
of the PierenPlus basic.
Trigeminal neuralgia
Programme 1
Trigeminal neuralgia occurs in bursts of extremely
unpleasant, shooting pain. Usually only one of the
three trigimenal branches is affected. One electrode is
applied directly in front of the ear, the second (depen-
ding on which branch is affected) above the eye (1st
branch), beneath the eye at cheekbone height (2nd
branch) or, also on the line of the eye, on the lower
jaw (3rd branch) (see fig. 16). If the application of the
electrodes or the stimulation itself is highly unpleasant,
the healthy side of the patient is first treated with the
same electrode application position as that foreseen
for the side with the disorder. The TENS-specific effects
also generate a pain-relieving effect on the side af-
fected, even though this is not being directly treated!
