3.Check the air cleaner.
Loosen the cover screws and remove the air cleaner cover.
Remove the foam air filter from the air cleaner housing.
Check the foam air filter to be sure it is clean and in good condition.
If the foam air filter is dirty, clean it as described on page 45.
Replace the foam air filter if it is damaged.
Reinstall the foam air filter in the air cleaner housing.

CAUTION:
Never run the engine without the form air filter. Rapid engine wear will
result from contaminants, such as dust and dirt, being drawn through
the carburetor, into the engine.
