2.3 Mechanism of operation
The welding or soldering fumes are extracted directly at the point of origin, filtered and the purified air is returned to the room.
The fume particles are separated in a mechanical cartridge filter.
After passing through the filter, the air cleaned of solid particles is returned to the working room.
The unit can be places either next to or on the welding machine. Or it can be equipped with ane optional wire feeder.
The aluminum construction provides high corrosion resistance to aggressive gases.
Special sound insulation ensures very quiet running at high suction power. By optimizing the air flow, a favorable efficiency has
been achieved, so that the required performance is achieved with an economical 1.5 KW motor.
2.4 Start up
The prerequisite for commissioning after proper installation is a socket with a connection voltage of 230V/50Hz.
The operating elements are located on the device.
In order to use the integrated automatic start/stop function, the optionally available sensor cable must be connected to the connec-
tion socket provided for this purpose. The connection is located next to the power connection socket. The other end of the sensor
cable (sensor clamp) must be connected to the ground cable of the welding power source in such a way that the ground cable is
firmly attached to the clamp.
For systems with self-cleaning, a compressed air connection is required for cleaning the filter element; it must be ensured that only
dry and oil-free compressed air is used. The pressure should be in the range of 3 - 5 bar. To ensure reliable cleaning of the filter,
the compressed air should be connected permanently so that the automatic cleaning system can also work reliably.
2.5 Filter change indicator
A differential pressure switch monitors the filter condition of the Minivac. If the air flow falls below the legally prescribed
minimum air volume flow during operation of the system, the audible warning device and the visual indicator for filter replacement
are triggered, i.e. the filter element is too dirty. The filter element must then be replaced with a new one as described in 4.3.
2.6 Particle filter system
Units with optional self-cleaning are equipped with a particulate retention system that reduces or completely prevents the escape
of deposited particles in the collection element (e.g. flue gas suction burner) during cleaning. This is achieved by the intelligent
control of the frequency converter, which drives the motor at a low speed during the cleaning phase. In order to generate just
enough vacuum in the filter housing to prevent the cleaning compressed air from spreading into the connected hose or flue gas
suction burner. The cleaning performance is not reduced by this system, on the contrary, it can even be cleaned with higher
pressure than in plants without suspended matter retention system.
2.7 General information
The automatic start/stop function switches the system on automatically at the start of the welding process and switches the system
off again with a 15sec run-on time, provided that the sensor cable is correctly connected and mounted.
When used on a torch-integrated detection system, the thermally induced welding fume movement must be exploited.
After the system has been switched off, the fan of the frequency converter can still be heard; this overrun of the fan in the
converter is normal. When the frequency inverter has cooled down after operation, the fan switches off automatically.
