5.Adjust the recording level with the line
input adjustment knobs according to the
source to be recorded while referring to the
recording/playback level indicator.
6. Insert the video tape into the VCR.
7.Press the REC MUTE button so that the
MUTE indicator lights.
8.Set the VCR to the recording mode and let
the tape run for 3 seconds or more before
starting the PCM recording.
9.Press the REC MUTE button so that the
MUTE indicator goes off. Now PCM record-
ing is being performed. Monitoring is
possible by headphones and via the AUDIO
output terminalis. To make non-+ecorded
sections, press the REC MUTE button to
apply muting; the MUTE indicator lights.
10.When recording is finished, stop the VCR
and turn the VP-100BPS''s power off.
WTips for better recordings (Fig. 6)
e The recording quality of PCM signals greatly
depends on the tape quality to be used; when
tapes already recorded are used for the PCM
recording, they may be creased or scratched
and the recording quality will be degraded.
It is recommended, therefore, to use fresh,
unrecorded tapes and to avoid recording on
the beginning and ending 30-second sections
of the tape (regardless of whether it is new or
previously recorded).
®@ Recording level adjustment
The level indicator of this unit is set to -15
dB with an input level of 142 mV as standard.
Therefore, its input-level is +15 dB (in case
of a normal analog deck, this is +3dB —
+6 dB for 0 VU).
Thus, the recording level can be set roughly
but it is better to set the maximum level of
the source to be recorded to about -3dB
using the peak hold function. When record-
ing an FM broadcast or the like, the peak
evel of which is not known, press the
EMPHASIS button so that the EMPHASIS
indicator lights: even if the OVER indicators
ight sometimes, the sound may be satis-
actory for normal listening, depending on
he frequency of their lighting.

As the OVER indicator lights when signals of
more than OdB are input, set the recording
evel so that the OVER indicators light as few
times as possible,
@ EMPHASIS button
As the EMPHASIS function conforms to
he EIAJ format CPZ-105, it is compatible
with any recorded tape using this technical
standard,
This function improves the S/N ratio with
overall characteristic flat by emphasizing the
high frequencies during recording and de-
emphasizing them during playback.
The S/N ratio is improved by 10 dB at 10 kHz.
When the EMPHASIS button has been set to
ON during recording, it is automatically
activated during playback by detecting the
signal from the tape.

stellen, und das Band vor Beginn der PCM-
Aufnahme fiir ca. 3 Sekunden oder mehr
laufen lassen.
9.Die REC MUTE-Taste betatigen, so da& die
MUTE-Anzeige wieder erlischt. Nun wird
PCM-Aufnahme = durchgefiihrt. = Toniiber-
wachung ist mit Kopfhérern oder via AUDIO-
Ausgangsbuchsen mdéglich. Zur Herstellung
unbespielter Abschnitte die REC MUTE-
Taste betatigen; die MUTE-Anzeige leuchtet.
10.Nach Beedigung der Aufnahme den Video-
rekorder stoppen, und die Spannungsver-
sorgung des VP-100BPS ausschalten,

e Die Aufnahmequalitat von PCM-Signalen hangt
wesentlich vom verwendeten Bandmaterial ab;
bereits bespielte Bander kénnen Knickstellen
oder Kratzspuren aufweisen, die die Qualitat
beeintrachtigen, Es ist daher empfehlenswert,
stets frische, unbespielte Bander zu verwenden
und am Anfang und Ende des Bandes einen
unbespielten Abschnitt von ca. 30 Sek. Dauer
zu lassen (bei neuen und bereits bespielten
Bandern).
e Aufnahme-Aussteuerung
Die Pegelanzeige dieses Gerats ist auf -15dB
mit einem Eingangspegel von 142mV_ als
Standard eingestellt.
Somit betragt der Eingangspegel +15 dB
(im Falle eines normalen analogen Decks
entspricht dies +3 dB bis +6 dB flr 0 VU).
Der Aufnahmepegel kann grob eingestellt
werden, es ist jedoch angebracht, den Maximal:
pegel der Aufnahmesignale unter Verwendung
der Peak Hold-Funktion auf ~3dB einzustel-
len. Bei Aufnahme einer UKW-Sendung 0.4.,
deren Spitzenpege! nicht feststellbar ist, die
EMPHASIS-Taste betatigen, so da die
EMPHASIS-Anzeige leuchtet. Auch bei
gelegentlichem OVER-Anzeigesignal wird der
Klang zufriedenstellend ausfallen, je nachdem
wie haufig diese Anzeige leuchtet.

Die OVER-Anzeige leuchtet bei Signalen von
mehr als OdB; deshalb sollte der Aufnahme-
pegel so eingestel!t werden, dali diese Anzeige
nur moglichst wenig leuchtet.
e EMPHASIS- Taste
Da die EMPHASIS-Funktion der EtAJ-Norm
CPZ-105 entspricht, ist sie mit jedem nach
dieser technischen Norm bespielten Band
kompatibel.
Diese Funktion verbessert den Stérspannungs-
abstand bei einer insgesamt geraden Charakt-
eristik, indem die hohen Frequenzen bei der
Aufnahme verstarkt und bei der Wiedergabe
abgeschwacht werden.
Der Storspannungsabstand wird bei 10 kHz
um 10dB verbessert. Wurde die EMPHASIS-
Taste bei der Aufnahme auf ON gestellt, wird
diese Funktion wahrend der Wiedergabe bel
Ablesen der Signale automatisch aktiviert.
