Flushing the Line
1. Close the proximal shut-off valve and open the
distal shut-off valve.
2. Open the pre-attached IV line, or attach a flush
syringe to the pre-attached heparin lock.
3. Gently squeeze the reservoir plunger flexures
together. Pull up on the reservoir plunger until
the desired amount of flush solution is in the
reservoir (see page 68, Fig. 2D).
4. Close the distal shut-off valve and open the
proximal shut-off valve.
5. Push down on the plunger until the flexures
lock into place in the fully closed position and
all fluid has been re-infused into the line (see
page 68, Fig. 2A).
Important: Recommended rate to push the
reservoir plunger to the fully closed position is
1 mL/second.
6. Repeat steps 1 to 5 until the line is cleared of
residual blood per hospital policy.
7. Open the distal shut-off valve to resume IV
fluid supply.
Warning: Laboratory values should correlate
with patient's clinical manifestations.
Verify accuracy of laboratory values before
instituting therapy.
Routine Maintenance
Since kit configurations and procedures vary
according to hospital preferences, it is the
responsibility of the hospital to determine exact
policies and procedures.
