Marking the hinge
The hinge is the part between the notch and the felling cut that has not
been sawn through. The hinge holds the tree to be felled during the
felling process and prevents the tree from falling uncontrollably. The
hinge ensures that the tree falls safely in the planned direction.
The height of the cut and the penetration depth of the saw bar must be
i
chosen so that the hinge is 1/10 of the trunk diameter.
Mark the hinge, for example: with a chalk line

Execution of the felling cut
The felling cut is carried out as a plunge cut. After cutting with the
chainsaw, the breaking strip is shaped according to the markings and
then the felling cut is guided backwards to the support band. The
support band is left at a thickness of between 10% and 20% of the
trunk diameter. Then finish cutting the break strip on the other side of
the tree. When guiding the cut, make sure that there are no cutting
steps against which the feed wedge can run.
