1. Insertion of the tube
Step-by-step instructions to insert Fahl
tracheostomy tubes.
®
Before application, users should clean their hands (see picture 3).
EN
Remove tube from the package (see picture 4).
If you are inserting the tube yourself, use a mirror to make insertion of the Fahl
tracheostomy tube easier.
®
When inserting the Fahl
tracheostomy tube, hold it by the neck flange with one hand (see picture 5).
®
Pull the tracheostoma slightly apart with your free hand to allow the tip of the tube to fit into the
tracheostoma more easily.
Now carefully insert the tube into the tracheostoma during the inspiration phase (while breathing in) while
tilting your head slightly back (see picture 5).
Advance the tube into the trachea.
Straighten your head once the tube has been inserted further into the trachea.
To facilitate insertion of the tracheostomy tube, it is advisable to lubricate the outer tube by wiping with
FAHL
OPTIFLUID® Lubricant Gel (REF 31600, 36105).
®
Please observe the instructions for use for the respective product.
CAUTION!
Only use water-based lubricants!
Oilbased lubricants can damage or destroy the product.
Also note the following steps when inserting the LARYNGOTEC
PRO KOMBI CLIP:
®
Fix the LARYVOX
Tape over the tracheostoma according to the Instructions for Use.
®
After checking for a secure fit of the tape, insert the LARYNGOTEC
PRO KOMBI CLIP through the
®
opening of the tape into the tracheostoma and fix the clip in the 22 mm connector of the tape (see
picture 6).
CAUTION!
Do not use the LARYNGOTEC
PRO KOMBI CLIP without LARYVOX
Tape.
®
®
Risk of aspiration!
CAUTION!
The LARYVOX
Tape must be replaced immediately if the adhesive property wears off.
®
Otherwise, secure attachment of the clip is no longer ensured.
2. Removing the tube
CAUTION!
Accessories such as a tracheostoma valve or HME (Heat Moisture Exchanger) must be removed
first before proceeding to remove the Fahl
tracheostomy tube.
®
Proceed very carefully to avoid injury to the mucus membranes.
Stepbystep instructions to remove the Fahl
tracheostomy tubes:
®
The tracheostomy tubes should be removed with the head slightly tilted back. Grip the tube at the side by
the neck flange or the housing (see picture 5).
Carefully remove the tracheostomy tubes.
IX. CLEANING AND DISINFECTION
CAUTION!
For reasons of hygiene and to avoid the risk of infection, you should thoroughly clean the Fahl
®
tracheostomy tube at least twice a day, more often during heavier secretion production.
In case of an unstable tracheostoma, the airways must always be secured before removing the
tracheostomy tube and a replacement tube must be kept ready for insertion. The replacement
tube must be inserted immediately, even before cleaning and disinfecting the changed tube.
Keep this in mind, your personal cleaning schedule, including additional disinfection if required, must
always be determined in consultation with your doctor/physician and according to your individual needs.
General cleaning may be insufficient to meet the special hygiene requirements to prevent
infections for patients with specific problems (e.g. MRSA, ORSA etc.), who are subject to an
increased danger of reinfection. We recommend chemical disinfection of the tubes according to
the instructions provided below. Please consult your doctor/physician.
CAUTION!
the tracheostomy tubes must not be cleaned using a dishwasher, a steam cooker, a microwave
oven, a washing machine or similar appliances!
CAUTION!
Cleaning agent and disinfectant residues on the tracheostomy tube can lead to irritations of the
mucus membranes or other health impairments.
