checking all the requirements of the EC Machinery Directive
98/37.
If supports are used with a lower capacity than the winch, the
permissible capacity according to the most critical element of the
system must be stated on the installed equipment where it is clearly
visible.
2.1 PREPARING THE PLACE OF WORK
- The side of the opening to access the load on the floor
must be protected with railings over 1m high and a foot stop.
- Make sure that the lift path is entirely clear and take the necessary
precautions so that no one can lean out from intermediate floors.
- Cordon off the lower loading area so that no one can stay there
during lifting.
3. FITTING THE WINCH AND JIB (Fig. 7)
Only skilled or properly trained personnel may assemble and ope-
rate the winch.
Given the weight of the various components, an appropriate
number of operators must be employed to avoid creating any
dangerous situations during transport and installation.
The maximum working height (25m standard or 40 metres if the
drum is wound with 81 metres of rope) corresponds to the position
of the top pulley of the jib with the winch installed at the foot of the
scaffolding.
Secure the winch directly to the scaffolding with the clamps so
that the rope is directed upwards.
- Caution. While the clamps supporting the winch are
being tightened, take care the winch does not slip down along
the scaffolding pipe as it could crush the installer's hands or
feet.
Secure the revolving jib to the scaffolding so that the rope's first
snub pulley stays on the vertical line of the drum. Also make sure
that, when the jib is in the middle position (working position), the
load on the ground is lifted opposite the winch and not alongside it
(Fig. 7). Tighten the clamp completely.
- Make sure that the clamp screws are fully tightened.
- Make sure that the jib is connected to the scaffolding
with appropriate bracing (Fig.11).
- Do not move the load up or down with the jib and winch
in any position other than the one shown in Fig. 7 so as to
prevent the rope rubbing too much against the walls of the
snub pulleys.
4. CONNECTING TO THE ELECTRIC MAINS
- Check that the voltage conforms to the machine's rating.
- Check moreover that the mains voltage is between -10% and
+6% of the rating with the winch working at full load.
- The electric power supply line must be equipped with
both miniature circuit breakers and residual current
devices and the earth wire must have the cross-
section of the line wire. The size of the cables must
take account of the operating currents and the length
of the line to avoid excessive voltage drops (ref. Tab.1).
Do not use extension leads wound around drums.
- The power cable must be suitable for frequent
handling and have an abrasion-resistant sleeve (for
example H07RN-F).
- Plug the machine into a 16-amp EEC socket with an
IP67 protection rating and tighten the retaining ring
nut.

- Connect the push-button panel to its connector. The winch is
equipped with a 3-button panel (Fig. 5):
black = down, first and second speed.
white = up, first and second speed.
red = emergency stop.
5. FITTING THE ROPE ON THE JIB (Fig. 8)
After mounting the winch and jib and making the electrical
connection, the machine is ready for operation.

the steel rope is not taut and it stops if the load to lift and the
counterweight do not keep the rope taut.
Pressing the down button while pulling the rope from the
counterweight, unreel a sufficient length of rope for it to reach the
height of the pulley B of the jib. After removing the split pin (ref. 1),
the pin (ref. 2) and the pulley (ref. 3) from the jib, pass the rope
through the race and insert it back in the jib, putting back the pin
and the split pin.
Repeat this process for the pulley (B).
6. TESTING

1) Using the down button, lower the rope without any load down to
the lower loading position and check that at the end of its travel at
least three turns of rope remain on the drum.
2) No-load cycle test. Apply a small load (20 kg) and check the
machine works properly by running a complete up/down cycle.
Test the control buttons on first and second speed, the emergency
button, rope anti-slack device, top limit switch with the gas spring
"C" tripping (Fig. 1), correct rope winding on the drum and motor
brake operation, both up and down.
3) Load test. This must be performed by applying the maximum
permissible load for the winch (120 kg). Run a complete up/down
cycle to check the anchorages of the winch and jib and to see that
the motor brake works correctly.
After the test, check whether anything has given or settled in the
structures.
4) The winch is fitted with a safety device that stops the machine
at the highest point. When the counterweight bumps against the jib,
via the rope it makes the reduction gear turn (held in position by the
gas spring) which operates a limit switch that stops the movement.
It is anyhow a good rule to prevent this device tripping by stopping
the machine before the counterweight bumps into the jib by
releasing the relevant control button.
5) The winch is fitted with a safety device that ensures two turns
of rope are always wound on the drum even when the rope is
entirely unwound; in this way, the connection of the rope on the
drum is never forced. When the rope, unwinding from the drum,
reaches the last two turns, this device holds it back and, if the
operator persists with the unwinding control, it makes it rewind in
the opposite direction, causing the rope anti-slackening limit switch
to trip (ref. G in Fig. 1). It is anyhow a good rule to prevent this
device tripping by stopping the machine when there are still at least
3 turns wound on the drum.
