Initial tests

5.1.1 Protective conductor test

National regulations could require testing the charging system
before start-up and at regular intervals. Perform these tests in
compliance with the applicable regulations.
After installation and before switching the device on for the first
time, it is necessary to measure the protective conductor (PE)
continuity:
▶ Connect the charging coupler to a test adapter for vehicle
simulation according to EN IEC 61851-1.
▶ Measure the PE conductor resistance between the PE
conductor socket of the adapter and the connection point
for the PE conductor in the building's electrical cabinet.
For a total cable length (connecting cable of the charging
system and vehicle charging cable) up to 5 m, the PE conductor
resistance must not exceed 300 mΩ. If the cable is longer,
allowances must be added in accordance with the applicable
national regulations. In any case, the resistance must never
exceed 1 Ω.

5.1.2 Insulation test

The charging system must be disconnected from the mains for
this purpose. Therefore, switch off the mains voltage at the
circuit breaker in the building's electrical cabinet before
performing the measurement.
The charging system is equipped with a disconnecting relay.
Therefore, two insulation measurements are required:
First measurement – primary side of the charging system
▶ Measure on the primary side the insulation resistance at the
connection point of the charging system supply cable in the
building electrical cabinet.

The Wallbox is equipped with an over voltage protection device.
This may be taken into account when performing the
measurement. In any case the value must not be less than 1 MΩ.
Second measurement – on the secondary side of the
charging system
▶ Connect the charging coupler to a test adapter for vehicle
simulation according to EN IEC 61851-1.
▶ Perform the insulation measurement via the measuring
sockets on the test adapter, the value must not be less
than 1 MΩ.
Alternatively, the differential-current method in combination
with measuring the PE conductor current can be used.
A value of 3.5 mA must not be exceeded in either case.
To perform these measurements it is necessary to:
▶ Connect the charging coupler to a test adapter for vehicle
simulation according to EN IEC 61851-1.
▶ Perform the measurement in adapter state C.
▶ Measure the differential current at the connection point of
the charging system's supply cable in the building's
electrical cabinet.
Depending on the measuring instrument used, it might not be
possible to perform the following measurement on the adapter.
In this case, perform the test at the connection terminals.

5.1.3 Switch-off condition test (short circuit)

In the event of a short circuit (Z
switch-off condition by:
▶ Connecting the charging coupler to a test adapter for
vehicle simulation according to EN IEC 61851-1.
▶ Performing measurements in the adapter state C.
▶ Performing measurements at the test adapter's
measuring sockets.
▶ Checking if the values are following the selected circuit
breaker.
