3.3 MP3 memory card

Fig. 3 Memory card
WARNING The unit must be opened for card replacement;
therefore, the card must only be replaced by
authorized personnel. Always switch off the
MEVAC-4 system before replacing the card!
The card is programmed by means of a Windows PC, for exam-
ple. The maximum length of the file name is 8 characters. All
text positions must be used. The file system of the SD memory
card must be FAT16 or FAT32. SDHC memory cards (up to
8 GB) are supported.
Windows is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation in the United States
and other countries.
Always observe the order of the texts /signals on the
memory card:
1. 16 kHz measuring tone
2. Preliminary chime for the microphones MEVAC-1PTT and
MEVAC-4PTT
3. Alarm
4. Preliminary alarm
5. Text
6. Preliminary chime (siren) for the fireman's microphones
MEVAC-1FH and MEVAC-1FT
Important!
Windows Explorer may not display the files in the order that
is actually required. To copy the files to an SD card in the
required order, proceed as follows:
1) First, always make a backup copy of the original files that
are stored on the memory card!
2) Reformat the SD memory card.
3) Select /Copy the 16 kHz file ("16kHz.mp3") and save the file
to the root directory of the SD memory card (drag & drop).
Note: MEVAC-4 uses the 16 kHz tone for testing purposes. Always
use the original file supplied.
4) Select /Copy the preliminary microphone chime file (e. g.
"2-GONG.mp3") and save the file to the root directory of
the SD memory card (drag & drop).
28
A slot for standard SD memory cards
(Secure Digital) is located inside the
unit.* All announcements and sig-
nal sounds are stored in MP3 format
on the SD memory card. A sampling
rate of 256 kBit / s, 44 kHz mono is
recommended. Other formats are
also supported.
* Note: Older versions of MEVAC-4 may
alternatively include a slot for multimedia
cards (MMC). When replacing a defective
MMC card, note that, due to modified
specifications by the card manufacturers,
MMC cards manufactured after 2008
cannot be used anymore.
5) Select /Copy the alarm file (e. g. "ALARM.mp3") and save
the file to the root directory of the SD memory card (drag
& drop).
6) Select /Copy the preliminary alarm file (e. g. "ALERT.mp3")
and save the file to the root directory of the SD memory
card (drag & drop).
7) Select /Copy the text file (e. g. "TEXT1-5.mp3") and save
the file to the root directory of the SD memory card (drag
& drop).
8) Select /Copy the preliminary fireman's microphone chime file
(e. g. "F-SIRENE.mp3") and save the file to the root directory
of the SD memory card (drag & drop).
Always observe this procedure as this is the only way to
make sure that the data is stored on the memory card in the
correct order. The MEVAC-4 system will recognize the signals
by their order and not by their names. The names are for your
information only.
To check the order of the MP3 files on the memory card,
proceed as follows:
1) Press the red button PROGRAM.
2) Press the button T4.
The display of the MEVAC-4 system will indicate, one after
the other, the number of the storage location and the name
of the corresponding MP3 file.
When a file is reproduced during normal operation, the
display will indicate the respective storage location and the
file name (see chapter 6.2).

3.4 Priorities

The following priority order has been defined for the individual
audio signals:
1. Fire Mic1 (announcement) – connection on the rear side
2. Fire Mic2 (announcement) – connection on the front
plate
3. Alarm
4. Preliminary alarm
5. Aux1
6. MEVAC-4PTT, MEVAC-1PTT (announcement)
7. Text
8. Music
At the microphones MEVAC-4PTT and MEVAC-1PTT, the
"BUSY" LED will start flashing rapidly to indicate the status
"BUSY"; in this status, the microphone cannot be used for
announcements. The reproduction of the message "Text" will
not trigger the status "BUSY" at the respective microphones.
