IMPORTANT
Changes to the alarm texts
The internal SD card can only be accessed
when the housing of MEVAC-4 is open.
Therefore, if required, change alarm texts
on the SD card (see chapter 3.3) before
installing MEVAC-4 into a rack.

1 Introduction: The System Family

MEVAC-4 is a PA and evacuation system from MONACOR
INTERNATIONAL GmbH & Co. KG. A range of accessory prod-
ucts available for MEVAC-4 will facilitate the setup of a voice
alarm system according to the current standards EN54-16 and
DIN /EN60849 (VDE 0828).

1.1 General system description

The MEVAC-4 system has primarily been designed for the
setup of PA and evacuation systems according to EN54-16 and
DIN / EN60849 (VDE 0828). As the central unit of the system,
MEVAC-4 distributes (fireman's) microphone announcements,
stored emergency and evacuation announcements, school
bells and background music, for example, and performs all
monitoring functions necessary and requested. Appropriate
measures will reduce the effects and consequences of any
irregularities detected.
The system is applied in schools, supermarkets, factories,
office buildings and hotels, for example. In its minimum setup
configuration, the system is a low-cost solution that only con-
sists of a main amplifier and a spare amplifier. It is possible
to implement four announcement lines, each in full A / B wir-
ing. Leading-edge DSP technology allows the user to meet
future application requirements via software updates from
the manufacturer.
Text messages and signal sounds are stored in MP3 format
on a SD memory card. The function of the text messages is
continuously monitored. The contents may be modified by
qualified installers of the system. The memory card is inside
the unit; it can only be accessed when the housing is
open (please refer to the note above and to chapter 3.3).
By means of an automatic installation run, MEVAC-4 will
recognize any components that are to be monitored according
to the standards. All components recognized will be indicated
on the display. Once the installation run has been completed,
it will constantly be checked if the components work properly.
In case of a failure, relay contacts can trigger the appropriate
messages to be sent (e. g. by means of a telephone dialling
unit such as the models VOXOUT or GD-04 from MONACOR)
to authorized persons (e. g. caretaker or company in charge
of maintenance).

1.2 Major MEVAC-4 features

Monitoring of up to four 100 V power amplifiers connected
Control of the power amplifiers via four transformer-
balanced AF outputs
Separate volume / treble / bass control options for each AF
output
Monitoring of a 100 V spare amplifier connected
Control of the spare amplifier via a transformer-balanced
AF output
In case of a main amplifier failure, the spare amplifier will
automatically switch to the speakers of the respective
amplifier. All functions will be retained with the correct vol-
ume (incl. music).
Monitoring of up to four speaker lines, each divided into
line A and line B (for a total of 8 test lines)
Monitoring of each test line connected with regard to inter-
ruption, impedance deviation, short circuit and earth fault
When a short circuit has been detected, disconnection of
the respective speaker lines to protect the power amplifiers
Connection of two fireman's microphones to the rear side
or directly to the front side of the unit (1 × hand-held
microphone). The microphone coils and the request lines
are monitored with regard to interruption and short circuit;
a preliminary chime (siren) can be programmed.
Connection options for system microphones:
MEVAC-4PTT 4 zones plus all-call (as many as desired)
MEVAC-1PTT 1 + 1 zone
Implementation of up to four announcement lines sup-
ported, preliminary chime can be programmed
If required, an external, potential-free contact can be used
to switch on an additional AUX audio input (e. g. for units
with commercials); with selectable assignment and separate
level adjustment for each AF output
Via a 4-channal matrix, selectable assignment of the music
program to the AF outputs; separate level adjustment for
each AF output
Addition of two texts (e. g. emergency evacuation texts), can
be controlled separately via potential-free request contacts
(detectors); with selectable assignment and separate level
adjustment for each AF output
Text that can be retrieved via an external contact; with se-
lectable assignment and separate level adjustment for each
AF output (e. g. shop closing time by clock contact)
Easy programming directly at MEVAC-4 by means of buttons
and display
Interface for PC connection provided; PC not required to set
MEVAC-4 into operation
Fault relay for general failures or mains power failure
Priority relays for activation of level attenuators
Automatic music switch-off and low-frequency attenuation
in the 24 V mode
(as many as desired)
