Observe the Installation Instructions carefully without fail
These Installation Instructions must be fully understood and
strictly observed by anyone who installs or uses this equip-
ment in any way.
The relevant Instructions for Use must also be observed
when operating the equipment.
Safety Symbols used in this Installation Instruc-
tion
While reading this installation instruction, you will come
across a number of warnings concerning some of the risks
and dangers you may face while using the device. These
warnings contain "signal" words that will alert you to the
degree of hazard you may encounter. These words, and the
hazard they describe, are as follows:
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not
avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not
avoided, could result in physical injury or damage to the
product.
It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices.

Intended Use/Description

For series "P" regeneration units BG 4, which have been
manufactured since April 1999 (for date of manufacture see
identification label), the PSS BG 4 "P" upgrade kit is availa-
ble. It consists of the following components:
PSS BG 4 Harness
PSS BG 4 Bodyguard "P"
BG 4/Tramix Jolt Protector
PSS BG 4 Protective Cover, Label
Series "P" regeneration units BG 4 (since year of manufac-
ture April 1999) can be retrofitted by the implementation of
all the upgrade kits named above. Only after full installation
of all the components of the upgrade kit named above the
approved PSS BG 4 device configuration will be reached.
Series "P" regeneration units BG 4 which are retrofitted
with the upgrade kit named above still comply with
— European Standard DIN EN 145 and PPE directive
89/686/EC. The device identification label attached to
the area near the recessed handle retains its validity.
— intrinsic safety requirements according to the EN 50 020
regulation:
EEx ia IIC T4
EEx ia I
— flame engulfment test according to prEN 137 and
VFDB 0802.
All previously used facepieces can continue to be used.
The Tramix closed circuit breathing apparatus (all years of
manufacture) and BG 4 series "P" (all years of manufacture)
can also be only retrofitted with the component PSS BG 4
Bodyguard "P" R 34 259.
In this case, the devices still comply with
— European Standard DIN EN 145 and PPE directive
