First measurements

After the strain clamps have been connected to the Displaybox, the first measurements can be made.
5.2

Examples of applications

5.2.1

Force distribution in the tie bars of an injection molding machine

The distribution of the forces in the tie bars can be measured with strain clamps using the system Completo
or Medio. One strain clamp is installed on each of the four tie bars and connected to the Displaybox. With the
evaluation software InspectMaster, the relative deviation (maximum deviation from the mean) can be
measured in percent. The force distribution in the tie bars is an important indicator of the closing parallelism
of the press. A value of <±5% is preferable.
5.2.2

Clamping force measurement on an injection molding machine

The clamping force can be measured with strain clamps using the systems Completo or Medio. One strain
clamp is installed on each of the four tie bars and connected to the Displaybox. To display the clamping force
in the desired unit, the parameters (Young's modulus, outside and inside diameter) must be set correctly in
the Displaybox and in the evaluation software InspectMaster. The sum of the forces in all tie bars produces
the clamping force.

Force measurement on a press

The systems Leggero and Solo are particularly suitable for applications with presses. The clamping force of
a frame press can be determined by placing a steel block fitted with a strain clamp in the force transmission
line of the plunger. The height of the steel block must be twice the diameter. The diameter must be chosen
such that an extension of 500 to 900µε occurs under full load of the press.
