ASSEMBLY AND COMPONENTS

The THOMALE GUIDE is initially supplied ster-
ile and contains six individual components (see
chapter first delivery). After use the THOMALE
GUIDE has to be disassembled, cleaned and
reprocessed (see chapter Re-use).
Step 1.
Install the catheter guide (1) from below into
the module consisting of a base ring (3) and
guide rails (2), so that the sliding surfaces of the
catheter guide rest against the inner radii of the
guide rails.
Step 2.
Slip the slider (4) on the top of the catheter
guide so that the inner radii corresponds and
rests directly on the outer radii.

Screw the locking nut (5) hand-tight onto the
screw thread of the catheter guide with the
small ledge of the locking nut pointing toward
the slider.
The steps above are performed in reverse order
for disassembly (for example to change or to
clean the catheter guide).

THE INSERTION ANGLE

Basically, for the measurement of the insertion
angle, determine the selected angle of the ven-
tricular catheter to the tangent in the coronal
plane above the burrhole. Therefore we pro-
pose two possibilities. It is in the responsilbil-
ity of the user to decide for the most practical
method.
1. The most accurate method to determine the
individual insertion angle of the ventricular
catheter guide to the tangent is done by im-
porting biparietal data of the skull into a plan-
ning software (for example, Osirix or a similar
navigation software). An optimal trajectory
for the ventricular catheter can thereby be
defined. The coordinates of the entry point,
e.g. into the nasion and the centre line can
be measured. Draw the tangent of the en-
try point on the projected coronal plane and
measure the angle of the trajectory to the
tangent (Fig. 6 and 7). Now the insertion
