Recalibration of the emergency closing unit
In order to maintain the control function, the zero point of the quick-acting device must be recalibrated at regular intervals. This is
done by releasing and then tensioning the quick-release device.

Installation and connection
3.1
Installing the control valve
Before installing the control valve, the following items should be observed:
• Installation space:
The installation location should be easily accessible. There must be sufficient space for maintenance and for opening
the actuator cover (>200mm).
• Before installation:
The protective caps must be removed from the flange openings.
• Cleaning of pipes:
To ensure a tight shut-off of the control valve, the pipelines must be flushed prior to installation. This prevents dirt
particles such as rust, scale or welding spatter from damaging the seat or plug of the control valve. To protect the
valve from impurities, a strainer upstream of the valve can be installed.
• Flow direction:
For two-way valves (globe valves) the arrow an the valve body must correspond to the flow direction.
For mixing valves, the outlet is shown with "AB" written on the valve body.
For diverting valves, the inlet is shown with "AB" written on the valve body.
• Mounting position:
A vertical mounting position with drive pointing upwards or a horizontal mounting position is possible. It is important to
make sure that the pillars are on top of each other to support the weight of the actuator. Figure 1 shows the
permissible mounting positions for valves installed with the emergency closing unit.
Valves with Emergency closing unit ST6152 may only be installed vertically
• Tension on valve body:
Precautions to prevent any stress and tension on the valve body have to be taken.
• Piping arrangement (routing):
To ensure proper functioning of the control valve, the pipeline upstream of the valve should run straight, unbranched
and undisturbed in an inlet section > 5x DN. Downstream of the valve, the outlet section should be > 10 x DN straight,
unbranched and undisturbed.
• Protection against heat:
To protect the actuator from excessive heat, the pipelines must be insulated. This should be done before the first start-
up.
