otherwise the proper function of the heater is not be ensured. A heat-resistant two-component paint is used for
the surface finish of the product, which hardens during the first operation after a temporary softening. During the
softening phase, be aware of the increased risk of damage to the paint by hand or another object. During the first
operation, there should be a small flame in the insert, burning a smaller amount of fuel at a lower temperature.
All materials must gradually get used to the heat load. Careful gradual kindling prevents cracks in the vermiculite
blocks, paint damage or deformation of the structure materials. Any unpleasant odour will soon disappear when
the paint hardens – intensive ventilation of the space is recommended, preferably by making draught. If there are
pets or birds in this area, move them elsewhere temporarily.
5.2. Kindling and heating
For easier kindling, first place 2 to 3 smaller wooden logs on the bottom of the fireplace, with paper or suitable
firelighters on top, followed by brushwood or kindlings, small wood, and finally thicker logs. Put in larger amounts
of fuel (approx. up to 2/3 of the height of the side vermiculite lining). By putting in a larger amount of fuel, suffi-
cient burning time to heat the chimney and thus its proper function will be ensured. Open the air vent regulator
to the maximum (by moving the regulator to the right – manual variant). It is sometimes advisable to reduce the
supply of the secondary air (variant with automatic regulation) for better kindling of the fuel. After lighting, the
fireplace door must be closed securely. Once the fuel has flamed up properly, use the supply air vent regulator to
set a low, rather subdued combustion.
Caution: Before each kindling, check that the fireplace is not excessively filled or that the outlets are not clogged.
Collect any excess ash from the grate and remove it with a poker or vacuum it with a suitable vacuum cleaner.
The fireplace (combustion chamber) door must always be closed, except for commissioning, stoking, cleaning or
removal of cooled ash. Pay attention to the position of the door latches; both latches must always be in the open
position when closing. In case of unintentional closing of the latch, it is possible to put it back into the open posi-
tion by inserting, for example, a screwdriver or another suitable tool into the notch of the latch.
After each prolonged interruption of the operation of the appliance, it is necessary to check the permeability and
cleanliness of the flues, chimney and the combustion chamber of the insert before rekindling.
5.3. Fuel stoking
To prevent flue gases from getting into the room during stoking, it is recommended to: fully open the air vent
regulator approximately 5 to 10 seconds before opening the fireplace door, then open the stoking door slightly,
wait a few seconds for the flue gases to be discharged into the chimney and then open the door fully. It is always
necessary to take care when opening the stoking door, as there is a risk of hot embers falling out. After adding
fuel, close the fireplace door securely again. After the fuel has flamed up (without a smoky flame), return the re-
gulator to its original position (or close it). When stoking, make sure that the fuel does not exceed the level of the
side vermiculite lining of the combustion chamber and is placed in the rear of the fireplace. The amount of fuel
added should correspond to approximately one hour of informative consumption for the given heater (see the
Annex Technical Information). Permanent damage to the heater may occur due to overheating.
Caution: To prevent too much flue gas getting into the room during stoking, it should be done after the fuel has
burned to hot embers.
5.4. External combustion air supply
Sufficient fresh air must be supplied for the combustion process. When burning wood, the insert consumes up
to 15 m3 of fresh air per hour. In new buildings, their isolation from the external environment (plastic windows,
doors, etc.) can be very high. Other problems can be caused by air extractors or other vacuum devices that are
active in the room or in the common area with the heater. This significantly reduces the quality of the combustion
process accompanied by sooting and clogging of the flue, and can also lead to a partial leakage of smoke into the
room during stoking. Sufficient air supply can be ensured by opening windows or doors to an adjoining, better
ventilated room. However, it is more appropriate to provide the heater with a ventilation opening for air supply
when it is installed, which has a ventilation grille that must be prevented from clogging, or, even better, with a
direct separate connection of external air supply from the exterior, basement, attic, or other room – an area with
ensured change of air.
5.5. Operation during a transition period and unfavourable climatic conditions
In the transitional period, or at higher outdoor temperatures above 15 °C, on rainy and humid days, during strong
gusts of wind, depending on the circumstances, the chimney draught may deteriorate so that the flue gases are
not sufficiently removed. Therefore, the fireplace insert must be operated with as little fuel as possible during this
period so that full combustion is ensured and the lower draught of the chimney is sufficiently used when the air
inlets are fully open.
