Test messages

To obtain a better result, the BAT 171 may request additional information. The following messages may be
displayed before the BAT 171 can display a test result.

Switch-off

Disconnect the BAT 171 from the 12 V battery and press

The BAT 171 is switched off automatically after 30 seconds if the BAT 171 has been disconnected
from the 12 V battery.

Explanation
Replace the battery and repeat the test. The message REPLACE BATTERY may also be displayed in the
event of poor contact between the battery clips and the battery. Prior to actual replacement of the
battery, disconnect the battery clips and test the battery again.
The battery can be put back into service.
Fully charge the battery.
The test results may be biased if the battery is not fully charged before repeating the battery test.
Replace the battery if the message "GOOD, RECHARGE" is displayed again after full charging.
Explanation
A 24 V battery has been identified.
Separate the two 12 V batteries and test each one separately.
Positive and negative connections interchanged. The battery clips have been connected the wrong
way round.
Select an ambient temperature above 0 °C or below 0 °C.
The decisive factor is the battery temperature, not the ambient temperature
Charge and re-test the 12 V battery.
Insufficient contact between the battery clips and battery connections.
R Always select "BEFORE CHARGING" for the acceptance test.
