Connection

Please study Section 4: "Points to be noted and
observed when testing starter batteries".

The battery test is preferably to be performed at the
battery posts. If the battery is not accessible, the
battery tests can also be conducted at the jumper
post. A lower power value may then however be
displayed.
1. Connect the red clip of the battery connecting cable
to the positive post (+) of the 12 V battery.
2. Connect the black clip of the battery connecting
cable to the negative post (-) of the 12 V battery.

Depending on the chosen setting (refer to
Section 5.3.1), either the measured battery voltage
is displayed or the battery test is started.

Move the battery clips back and forth to check for
proper connection. The two clips must be firmly
attached on both sides before starting the test.

In the event of poor contact, the message "CHECK
CONNECTION" or "WIGGLE CLAMPS" is displayed. In
this case, clean the battery posts and re-connect the
battery clips.

Observe the key commands available in the
button bar.
i
After switching off the BAT 171, the last parameter
settings made are retained until the unit is next
switched on.

the measured voltage are displayed. The BAT 171
also indicates the standardization system selected
and the characteristic value.
