14. "NiCD CHARGE" charging program

This charging program is only suitable for NiCd batteries with a voltage of 1.2V
per cell. Never try to charge another type of battery using this charging
program.
The charge current to be set is independent of the battery capacity and is usually 1C. However,
you should take the battery manufacturer's instructions into account.
The value "1C" means that the charging current is equivalent to the battery's capacity. As such,
a charge current of 2.0A should be set for a 2000mAh NiCd battery at 1C.

Depending on the battery connected and its structure, a charge current of 1C
may not be possible. For example, receiver batteries usually consist of Mignon/
AA cells that cannot withstand such a high charge current without incurring
damage.
As a rule of thumb: the smaller the battery (i.e. the individual cell), the lower the
maximum charge current. Many NiCd mignon/AA cells with a capacity of
1000mAh allow a charge current of 200-250mA for a rapid recharge.
Charge the NiCd battery as follows:
• After you have selected the "NiCd CHARGE" charging program and confirmed with the
"Start/Enter" key, the following display appears (example):

The value on the right in the second row shows the charge current.
• If the charge current needs to be changed, press the "Start/Enter" key. The charge current
begins to flash. Change the charge current using the keys "INC" and "DEC", confirm the
value using the "Start/Enter" key. The number of cells is established automatically!
• To begin the charging process, keep the "Start/Enter" key pressed.
• If the settings are wrong, or if the charger detects a problem, an audio signal is emitted and
the appropriate information is shown on the display (see chapter 16).
You can stop the audio signal by pressing the "Batt Type/Stop" key. You then return to the
previous configuration menu.
