15. "Pb CHARGE" charging program

This charging program is only suitable for lead acid batteries with a voltage of
2V per cell. Never try to charge another type of battery using this charging
program.
Lead acid batteries are completely different to NiMH or NiCd batteries. In comparison to their
high capacity they can only provide low currents. The charging process is also different.
The charge current for lead acid batteries may only be a maximum of one-tenth (1/10 C) the
battery's capacity.
A maximum charge current of 0.5A (500mA) may be set for a 5000mAh lead acid battery.
It is not permitted to rapidly charge lead acid batteries, as this would overload
the battery - resulting in a risk of fire and explosion!
Always heed the information printed on the battery or the details provided by
the battery manufacturer on the permitted charge current.
Charge the lead acid battery as follows:
• After you have selected the "PB CHARGE" charging program and confirmed with the "Start/
Enter" key, the following display appears (example):

1.0A
The value on the left in the second row shows the charge current, the value on the right shows
the rated voltage of the battery.
• If the values need to be changed, press the "Start/Enter" key. The charge current begins to
flash. Change the charge current using the keys "INC" and "DEC", confirm the value using
the "Start/Enter" key.
The voltage then begins to flash. Change it using the keys "INC" and "DEC". You should keep
in mind while doing this that the voltage only changes with the number of cells (e.g. one cell
= 2V, two cells 4V etc.) Confirm the setting by pressing the "Start/Enter" button.
• To begin the charging process, keep the "Start/Enter" key pressed.
• If the settings are wrong, or if the charger detects a problem, an audio signal is emitted and
the appropriate information is shown on the display (see chapter 16).
