Process conditions
IP rating
The sensors of the LUC4 series have an IP rating of 65 and therefore are protected against dust and water jets.
Operating temperature
Please pay attention to our allowable environmental and operating temperature. Is the temperature constant or does
it change during operation? Check whether or not you should do an additional temperature compensation. Our
application engineers will give you advice if you wish.
Mechanical stress
If you expect the sensor to be subject to greater mechanical stresses please ask our application engineers for
advice.
Vacuum
The LUC4 series is designed for atmospheric pressures only. Correct measurements in vacuum are not guaranteed
by Pepperl+Fuchs.
Pressure
Please ask our application engineers for advice if you plan to use a sensor of the LUC4 series in environments with
changing pressure. In such cases you have to expect less accuracy since the velocity of sound also depends on
the pressure.
Changing gas atmospheres
Likewise to pressure the mixture of gas also has an influence on the velocity of sound. Please ask our application
engineers for advice if you plan to use a sensor of the LUC4 series in a frequently changing gas mixture.
Vessel
Measuring range
Please check whether or not the measuring range of the LUC4 series is sufficient and you do not get into the dead
band of the sensor. You find the technical data in section 6.
Mounting location
You should mount the sensor perpendicular to the medium's surface. If this is not possible you can think about a
redirection of the sound. Please ask our application engineers for advice.
Please choose a location with the lowest possible number of insertions in the direction of sound. If there are any
in that direction use the fixed target suppression to suppress their echoes.
Extreme environmental / filling noise
Extreme environmental respectively filling noise might influence the accuracy of the measurement. Please ask our
application engineers if you plan to use a sensor of the LUC4 series in a (extreme) loud environment.
