EqUIPMENT PREPARATION
PREPARING HEMOSTATS
during the procedure, it is useful to clamp
some of the device tubes. in order to protect
the device tubing from damage when
clamping, cover the jaws of the hemostat with
small sections of silicone tubing provided in
Accessories kit. All the teeth of the hemostat
should be covered. the jaws should only be
clamped to the first click to prevent excessive
pressure on the tubing.
COMPONENT SET UP
CUFF
Before opening the pouches that keep the
cuff sterile, perform the measurement of the
urethra to ensure that the
appropriate cuff size is selected.
use of scissors to trim the cuff tubing length
squarely to fit patient's anatomy.
Attach the blunt injection needle to the 10ml
syringe.
Fill the syringe with approximately 5ml of
sterile saline solution.
Hold the cuff with one hand and squeeze it
until it is deflated.
insert needle into the end of the cuff tubing.
Aspirate any air left in the cuff.
Fill the cuff with 1 ml to 3 ml, depending on
cuff size.
note: do not over fill the cuff. excessive fluid
can stretch cuff material.
squeeze the cuff and let it refill. repeat it until
most air bubbles are out of the cuff. Clamp off
the cuff tubing 5cm below the needle.
place the cuff into a sterile tray containing
sterile saline solution.
bALLOON SET UP
use scissors to trim the balloon tubing length
squarely to fit patient's anatomy.
Attach the blunt injection needle to the 10ml
syringe.
Fill the syringe with 10ml of sterile saline
solution.
Hold the balloon with one hand and squeeze
it until it is deflated.
insert the needle into the end of the balloon
tubing.
Fill the balloon with 3ml of sterile saline
solution.
Aspirate any air left in the balloon.
Fill the balloon with 6ml of sterile saline
solution.
note: do not overfill the balloon. excessive
fluid can stretch the balloon material.
squeeze the balloon and let it refill. repeat
it until most of the air bubbles are out of the
balloon. Clamp off the balloon tubing 5cm
below the needle.
place the balloon into a sterile tray containing
sterile saline solution.
PUMP SET UP
place end of each tubing in a basin with
sterile saline solution. use scissors to trim
the control pump tubing length squarely to fit
patient's anatomy.
Hold the control pump with the tubes on top.
With the tubing submerged, squeeze and
release the control pump until all air in the
control pump and tubing has been displaced
with sterile saline solution,
in this position, clamp each tube 5cm form
end using hemostats.
place the control pump into a sterile tray
containing sterile saline solution.
SURGICAL PROCEDURES
CUFF REPLACEMENT
place an indwelling catheter (Foley 12) into
the urethra to facilitate identification during
the dissection.
make a perineal incision and dissect around
the viCto+/viCto cuff.
place some umbilical tape around the urethra.
detach the cuff and released it to the urethra.
place the measurement tape, supplied with
the Accessories kit, around the urethra where
the replacement cuff is to be implanted. it
should fit snugly without constricting the
urethra. note: Before measuring the urethra,
take out the indwelling catheter.
