HANDLING OF THE NiMH BATTERY PACK
NiMH batteries (Nickel-Metal Hydride) are state of
the art electric power sources with high capacity in
relation to their weight. Handling such batteries
requires special care to avoid possible hazards
and premature loss of power with regards to
charging and discharging as well as storing and
any other kinds of handling. Non-observance of
instructions and warnings can rapidly affect loss of
power, shortening of service life or defects. After
the flight and at the end of charging, the battery
may become hot. Within certain limits this is a
normal process.
The 230 V charger supplied with
the aircraft kit is connected to a standard socket. It
delivers a current of 400 mA with a voltage of 9 V
so that the rechargeable flight battery can be
charged in 6-7 hours. After this time, the
rechargeable battery must be disconnected from
the charger as otherwise it heats up too much and
may be damaged. If possible, the battery should
be flat before charging; leave the motor running for
a while until the speed drops.
very sensitive to deep discharge where the voltage
drops to less than 1V per cell; they can be
permanently damaged by this process. The
electronic speed controller (ESC) is equipped with
Disposal of worn out or damaged batteries
Dispose of battery properly. The durability of NiMH
battery packs depends on the kind of use and
current consumption. If a steady high current is
consumed e.g. during fast flying with high rpm,
about 250 charge / discharge cycles are possible.
A reduction in capacity will also be noticed sooner.
A worn out (only very low capacity) or damaged
battery pack (wrapper damaged, worn cable) has
to be disposed of at special disposal sites and
must not be included with normal household
rubbish.

NiMH batteries are

lightweight i.e. designed for lower speeds. Wings
with active control surfaces (ailerons) are available
as spare parts.
a safety switch that protects against under voltage
by shutting down the motor; the remaining voltage
is sufficient to maintain control in a power-off glide.
Depending on the way you fly, the voltage of your
NiMH battery pack will drop at some stage
resulting in a lower rpm of the motor combined with
reduced climbing ability of your model. As soon as
you realise this fact you should start to land.
Landing with not enough or no power is always
difficult and you may not have sufficient power to
reach your intended landing point.
Short circuits must be absolutely avoided; they can
cause great heat and melt the wire insulation and
can ignite surrounding combustible material.
If you have several spare rechargeable batteries
and would like to reduce the charging time
visit your special hobby dealer for details of
CARSON quick chargers. The battery pack may be
rather hot after a flight.
It is prohibited to charge the battery pack inside the
model and we recommend removal of the battery
