HEARTSTART FR3 INFANT/CHILD KEY

DESCRIPTION AND INTENDED USE

The FR3 Infant/Child Key 989803150031 is for use only
with the HeartStart FR3 Defibrillator ("FR3") to treat a
suspected victim of sudden cardiac arrest who is under
55 lbs (25 kg) or 8 years old. If you are uncertain of the
child's exact weight or age, use the FR3 without the
Infant/Child Key.*
For instructions for using the FR3, refer to the Guide to
Setup, Operation, and Maintenance provided with the
FR3.†
WARNING: Most cardiac arrests in children are not caused by heart
problems. When responding to cardiac arrest in an infant or child:
• Provide infant/child CPR while a bystander calls EMS and brings the FR3.
• If no bystander is available, provide 1-2 minutes of CPR before calling
EMS and retrieving the FR3.
• If you witnessed the child's collapse, call emergency medical services
immediately and then get the FR3.
• Turn on the FR3 and install the Infant/Child Key.‡
Alternatively, follow your local protocol.
With the Infant/Child Key inserted, the FR3 announces "Infant/Child Mode"
and automatically adjusts the defibrillation therapy to a level more
appropriate for infants and children. In addition, the FR3 provides
instructions for infant/child CPR as part of any configured CPR protocol.
No special defibrillator pads are required to use the FR3 to treat an infant
or child. The HeartStart SMART Pads III provided with the defibrillator are
designed for use on all patients.
* The Infant/Child Key should not be used when treating an adult, because the
lower defibrillation therapy level may not be effective.

‡ NOTE: It does not matter whether you insert the Infant/Child Key before or
immediately after turning on the FR3.
