Balluff Light Array

Parameterization and functions (continued)
Exemplary cases are presented below to explain the
modes:
4.2.1

One edge

To detect an edge brought into the measurement field from
the right side (right edge of the measurement field is
covered), set "Right Object" (RO) as the mode for an
analog output value. The distance of the edge from the
right border of the measurement field is displayed as the
measured value. If the distance needs to be measured
from the left field border, set "Left Slit" (LS).
Fig. 4-1: One edge in the light band
In this case no value is output for Left Object (LO) or
Right Slit (RS).
Since there is only one edge, no value is output for Slit or
Diameter either.
If the light band is completely covered, the position of the
right and left edges is indicated with the maximum value
16256. In this case, the point "Invalid value" [Data Invalid]
is also set to "true" in the process data.
4.2.2

Diameter and position (two edges)

The object is completely within the measuring field, i.e. the
borders of the light band are not covered.

For example, selecting analog output value1 = Pos.
Obj. (PO) and analog output 2 = Diameter (D) allows
the center position and the diameter to be output simulta-
neously.
Alternatively you can also for example output the position
of both edges:
Analog output value 1 = Left Obj.
Analog output value 2 = Right Obj.
4.2.3

Multiple objects

If there are several objects in the light band, the device
works in such a way that only the first object from the right
and from the left is detected. Objects in between are
ignored.
The output values are output as shown in figure 4-3 for
different modes in the case of several objects.

4.2.4

Averaging [Analog Value Average Counter]

The averaging function can be used to output the average
of an output value over several cycles. If the parameter is
set to n, the BLA calculates internally the arithmetic aver-
age over n cycles and outputs this average value. If the
parameter is set to 1 (or 0), averaging is deactivated and
the current value is output.
4.2.5

Scaling [Scale] and Offset [Offset]

The output values can be modified by means of the scaling
[Scale] and offset values. This is done according to:
Output value = original value x scaling + offset
