Pump calibration

In order to ensure that the values displayed on the control unit for the volume and dispensing
rate correspond to reality, the control unit must know how much volume (µl) the pump moves
per revolution. Depending on the pump type and tolerances, this can be between 10 µl and 80
µl. So that this volume can be easily measured, each control unit comes with a measuring
pipette and the control unit offers a calibration function. As an alternative to the enclosed
measuring pipette, more finely graduated commercially available types made of glass or plastic
disposable syringes can be used.
The calibration affects the conformity of the displayed values with the actual dosed values, not
the absolute repeatability of doses.
A newly connected rotor pump should therefore be calibrated.
For this, the pump must be filled with product and the system ready for dosing.
The outlet of the pump is now connected to the tip end of the measuring pipette, for example
with the help of a piece of OD 6 mm pneumatic hose. With highly viscous products the tip end of
the plastic pipette should be shortened by approximately 8 mm in order to obtain a larger inlet
cross-section. Use the rinsing key to fill the connecting hose and the front end of the pipette up
to the first line of the scale.
Then – from the start screen – select the key
for the extended settings, and from the
extended settings the key for the device
settings.
At the top right of the device settings is the
symbol for pump calibration. If this is
touched, the drive is activated in such a way
that the pump shaft rotates exactly 10 times.
This can be performed once or several times
in a row.
Then the additional volume dosed during the
calibration is read off as accurately as possible
in the measuring pipette (the scale lines each
correspond to 100 µl) and divided by the
number of revolutions.
If for example 1.45 further scale lines of
product were dosed during a calibration (with
10 revolutions), 145 µl is divided by 10 = 14.5
µl.
This value is then entered in the field below
for the pump calibration.
To complete the calibration, all parameters
should be saved such that they are secured
against a power failure.
