Before switching on, position the machine on the
workpiece with base plate 3. The saw chain must not
be in contact with the workpiece at this stage. Hold
the machine at the two handles 1 and 2 and, after
switching it on, advance the machine evenly without
jamming. Wherever possible, always guide the
machine with the parallel guide fence either along
the workpiece edge or along a guide lath attached to
the workpiece. The guide rail available as an
optional accessory is also suitable for this task. In
this case, as when using a guide lath, the narrow
edge of the parallel guide fence is facing upwards
(see section 3.5). Where possible, sawing according
to markings should be avoided.
4.3
Large cutting lengths
For large cutting lengths (e.g. several beams or raft-
ers in succession), the chain bar can be tilted back-
wards by 10° (see ill. 5). This helps to keep the
machine on a straight line, particularly when passing
from one workpiece to the next.
Pull out the mains plug before tilting
the chain bar.
To adjust the angle of the chain bar, first slacken off
two locking screws 28 (ill. 5) and tilt the chain bar
towards the rear handle as far as it will go. Then
retighten the locking screws.

Service and maintenance

Pull out the mains plug before start-
ing on any maintenance work!
MAFELL machines are designed with a low
maintenance requirement. The ball bearings
used are greased for life. After a prolonged
period of operation, users are recom-
mended to have the machine checked by an
authorized MAFELL customer service shop.
5.1
Machine
The machine must be regularly cleaned of dust, at the
same time blowing out the motor ventilation apertures.
The chain sets used on the machine must be freed
from resin regularly as clean tools improve the cut-
ting quality. This can be done by soaking the chaines
for 24 hours in paraffin, white spirit or commercially
available resin remover.
5.2
Chain bar
The chain bar must be regularly serviced. This
includes lubricating the sprocket and deburring the bar.
Lubrication – see ill. 7
• Take off chain set (see paragraph 3.2).
• Clean lubricating opening.
• Place chain bar on a flat surface.
• Insert nozzle of grease gun firmly in lubricating
opening and continue to press until grease
emerges at the nose guide pulley. Use good qual-
ity, acid-free bearing grease.
• Re-install chain set (see paragraph 3.2).
Burr removal – see ill. 8
• Take off chain set (see paragraph 3.2).
• Remove chain from chain bar.
• Deburr with a flat file as shown in ill. 8.
• Mount chain and re-install chain set (see para-
graph 3.2).
5.3
Sprocket
Sprocket 22 (ill. 3) is exposed to exceptional stresses.
If the individual teeth reveal obvious score marks
(approx. 0.5 mm / 3/16 in.), it is essential that the
sprocket is renewed. MAFELL recommends that this
work is carried out by an authorized customerservice
shop.
