2. Headlamp calibration
device
2.1

Description

The headlamp calibration device is a measuring
instrument designed for the regular and occasional
checking of beam setters. It simulates a headlamp
with known characteristics such as brightness and
inclination angle in percent.
2.2

Preparation

The calibration device must be exactly positioned
before using it for checking the beam setter.

It must be set up at a height of 70 to 80 cm and in
parallel position with respect to the floor.

The height adjustable feet can be used to set the
calibration device exactly in parallel with the floor.

When perfectly parallel, the spirit level which can
be seen from the cover will be in the centre of the
round black mark.

1. Open the alignment bars.

2. Plug in the low-voltage connector of the power
supply unit at the calibration device.

3. Connect the cable of the power supply unit to the
mains (230 V).
4. Set the selector switch of the power supply unit to
13.8 V (simulated motor vehicle alternator voltage).
5. The switch must be set to 1 to switch on the power
supply unit.

The calibration device is then ready for operation.

Dipped or main beam can be switched on. To do so,
the switch on the top must be set to 1 or 2.

Visual inspection of beam setter

Check the wheels for damage or excessive wear.
R
There must not be any dents or signs of corrosion
on the housing or any moving parts. All moving parts
must be in proper working order.

The light box must be subjected to a thorough visual
inspection and functional test.
R
The lens must be intact and clean.
R
The inclination angle dial must move freely and be
easy to read (not necessary with HTD 8xx).
R
Check the condition of the rating plate.

If the rating plate is damaged or not easy to read,
it must be replaced immediately as this is an
important approval criterion for performing general
inspections.
