Working Advice

 Before any work on the machine itself, pull the mains
plug.
 Wait until the machine has come to a standstill before
placing it down.
The material removal rate and surface quality are primarily de-
termined by the choice of sanding tool, the pre-selected
speed setting and the contact pressure.
Only immaculate sanding tools will deliver good sanding per-
formance and protect the power tool.
Use only original Bosch sanding accessories.
Sanding
 When working with the machine, always hold it firmly
with both hands and provide for a secure stance. The
power tool is guided more secure with both hands.
– Connect your dust extraction system (integrated or exter-
nal).
– If external dust extraction:
Whenever possible, work with the remote shutdown or au-
tomatic start/stop of the vacuum cleaner. The vacuum
cleaner will automatically switch itself on and off again af-
ter a time delay in order to remove residual dust from the
vacuum hose.
– Switch the machine on, place it with the complete sanding
surface on the surface to be worked and move the machine
with moderate pressure over the workpiece.
– Be sure to apply consistent contact pressure in order to in-
crease the lifetime of the application tools.
Excessively increasing the contact pressure will not lead to
an increased material removal rate, rather it will cause
more severe wear of the power tool and of the application
tool.
– Lift the power tool off the surface.
– If integrated dust extraction:
Leave the power tool to run for a few seconds in order to re-
move residual dust from the vacuum hose 20.
Sanding close to the edge (see figure H)
The hood segment 11 of the guard and extraction hood 10
can be removed for sanding close to edges. This will enable
the application tool to get closer to floor, wall and ceiling edg-
es and existing installations such as pipes in order to work the
adjacent surfaces precisely.
When doing such work, you should expect dust to develop be-
cause the guard and extraction hood 10 is no longer closed.
– Hook the hook wrench 19 into the top of the hood segment
11 and pull the hood segment downwards out of the ex-
traction hood 10.
– Work the surfaces close to edges.

– Reattach the hood segment 11 to the extraction hood 10
until you hear it engage.
Perforating Walls/Wallpaper (see figure I)
The perforator 34 can be used to perforate old wallpaper (be-
fore dampening it to pull it off) or to perforate walls (before
applying tile adhesive).
The perforation can be adjusted in seven stages to enable op-
timum adaptation to the material to be worked:
– Position "P": Transport/storage setting (spikes of the per-
forator wheels are completely sunken into the spacer disc)
– Position "min": Perforation 0.2 mm deep
– Position "max": Perforation 1.4 mm deep
Start with low setting values.
– Mount the perforator 34 (see "Changing the Application
Tools", page 25)
– Press the spacer disc 45 fully inwards, keep the spacer
disc pressed and turn it by one lock-in point.
The lock-in point must audibly engage at the arrow mark.
– Test the work result in a non-critical position of the wall un-
til the optimum depth of perforation is set.
– Do not dwell in one position for too long when perforating.
Move the power tool swiftly over the surface you want to
roughen.
Note: In order to ensure optimum performance, regularly
clean dust or wallpaper residues off the perforator 34.
Polishing
 Thoroughly clean the handpiece 1 before polishing, es-
pecially the brush collar 12 and the guard and extrac-
tion hood 10. Dirt and dust residues can affect the polish-
ing result.
The surface of the backing pad 39 is fitted with Velcro backing
for quick and easy fastening of foam discs with Velcro adhe-
sion.
– Mount the backing pad 39 (see "Mounting the Backing Pad
for Fibre Sanding Discs", page 26)
– Remove dirt and dust from the backing pad 39, e.g. with a
paintbrush, before attaching a new foam disc.
– Centre the foam disc 40 on the backing pad 39 and press
it on firmly.
Thoroughly clean the surface of the material being worked be-
tween each polishing step.
Transport and Storage (see figure J)
– Detach the vacuum hose 20 from the vacuum connection
8:
To disassemble, turn the vacuum hose 20 and the vacuum
connection 8 against each other slightly and then pull the
components apart.
– Wrap the vacuum hose 20 around the dust container 24.
When doing so, wrap the vacuum hose twice around the
open holder 30 and insert the loose end into the closed
part of the holder 30.
– Wrap the power cable around the handle 6.
– During transport, carry the handpiece 1 and dust contain-
er 24 (by the carrying handle 26) separately.
