 Use special care when working corners, sharp edges,
etc. Avoid bouncing and snagging the accessory. Cor-
ners, sharp edges or bouncing have a tendency to snag the
rotating accessory and cause loss of control or kickback.
 Do not attach a saw chain woodcarving blade or
toothed saw blade. Such blades create frequent kickback
and loss of control.
Safety warnings specific for sanding operations
 Do not use excessively oversized sanding disc paper.
Follow manufacturers recommendations, when select-
ing sanding paper. Larger sanding paper extending be-
yond the sanding pad presents a laceration hazard and
may cause snagging, tearing of the disc, or kickback.
Safety warnings specific for polishing operations
 Do not allow any loose portion of the polishing bonnet
or its attachment strings to spin freely. Tuck away or
trim any loose attachment strings. Loose and spinning
attachment strings can entangle your fingers or snag on the
workpiece.
Safety warnings specific for wire brushing operations
 Be aware that wire bristles are thrown by the brush
even during ordinary operation. Do not overstress the
wires by applying excessive load to the brush. The wire
bristles can easily penetrate light clothing and/or skin.
Additional safety warnings
Wear safety goggles.
 Use suitable detectors to determine if utility lines are
hidden in the work area or call the local utility company
for assistance. Contact with electric lines can lead to fire
and electric shock. Damaging a gas line can lead to explo-
sion. Penetrating a water line causes property damage or
may cause an electric shock.
 Release the On/Off switch and set it to the off position
when the power supply is interrupted, e. g., in case of a
power failure or when the mains plug is pulled. This pre-
vents uncontrolled restarting.
 Use the machine only for dry sanding. Penetration of wa-
ter into the machine increases the risk of an electric shock.
 Apply the machine to the workpiece only when
switched on and switch the machine off only after it has
been lifted away from the workpiece. The power tool
can move suddenly.
 Pay attention that no persons are put at risk through
sparking. Remove any combustible materials in the vi-
cinity. Sparking occurs when sanding metal materials.
 Do not use any worn, torn or severely clogged sanding
tools. Damaged sanding tools can tear, fly off and injure
someone.
 Do not use any cutting discs, grinding discs or wire cup
brushes. The power tool is not suitable for use with these
application tools. This poses a risk of injury!
Bosch Power Tools
 Always use the supplied vacuum hose and a suitable
dust extraction system when operating the power tool.
Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
 Caution, fire hazard! Avoid overheating the object be-
ing sanded as well as the sander. Always empty the
dust collector before taking breaks. In unfavourable
conditions, e. g., when sparks emit from sanding metals,
sanding debris in the dust bag, micro filter or paper sack
(or in the filter sack or filter of the vacuum cleaner) can
self-ignite. Particularly when mixed with remainders of var-
nish, polyurethane or other chemical materials and when
the sanding debris is hot after long periods of working.
 When working with the machine, always hold it firmly
with both hands and provide for a secure stance. The
power tool is guided more secure with both hands.
 Wear hearing protection, protective goggles, dust
mask and gloves as required. As dust mask, use at least
a particle-filtering class FFP 2 half-mask.
 When working stone, use dust extraction. The vacuum
cleaner must be approved for the extraction of stone
dust. Using this equipment reduces dust-related hazards.
 Do not touch application tools until they have cooled
down. The application tools become very hot whilst work-
ing.
 Wear protective gloves when changing application
tools/accessories. Application tools/accessories become
hot after prolonged usage.
 Do not work any materials which release harmful sub-
stances, e.g. beech or oak wood dust, stone dust or as-
bestos. These substances are considered carcinogenic.
 Inform yourself about the valid regulations/laws for
your country concerning the handling of materials that
are hazardous to one's health.
 Never touch the sanding tool when it is running. This
poses a risk of injury.
 Use scaffolding for the work if required. You cannot pro-
vide for a secure stance when working on a ladder.
 Products sold in GB only: Your product is fitted with a
BS 1363/A approved electric plug with internal fuse
(ASTA approved to BS 1362).
If the plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it should
be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place by an
authorised customer service agent. The replacement plug
should have the same fuse rating as the original plug.
The severed plug must be disposed of to avoid a possible
shock hazard and should never be inserted into a mains
socket elsewhere.
Products sold in AUS and NZ only: Use a residual current
device (RCD) with a rated residual current of 30 mA or
less.
