6. Hot gas defrost
The hot gas defrost function works as follows: every 45 minutes the compressor shuts down for 6 minutes (while the
fan remains in operation). After this period has lapsed the compressor switches back on again.
A drop in temperature below 0° C is registered by a temperature sensor; in such a case the electronic circuit board acti-
vates a solenoid valve in the refrigeration circuit so that the path of the refrigerant and the hot gas now flows via the
evaporator, thereby melting the ice. When the temperature of the evaporator increases, the defrost process is ended
and the valve switches back to its original position. The fan is switched off during this process.
