As mentioned previously, the dehumidifier operates on
the basis of a refrigerant circuit. The compressor draws in
the refrigerant (R134a) and conveys it into the condenser
Condenser
(heat exchanger) from copper tubes, in which the coolant
flows, and from aluminium fins, through which the air is
moved by the fan.
Capillary
tube
The coolant flows into the condenser in gaseous form at
high pressure; it then condenses and slightly warms the
air, which subsequently flows through the exchanger. The
coolant flows in a liquid state, at high pressure, from the
Evaporator
condenser and through the capillary (a very narrow tube),
in which the liquid is subjected to a significant drop in
pressure.
The liquid, which now exhibits a small proportion of
vapour as a result of the significant drop in pressure,
flows into the evaporator, which consists of an aluminium
tube. The liquid coolant evaporates in the tube under low
pressure, whereby the heat exchanges with the air that
flows through the tube, and thus cools the aluminium
surface.
The moisture contained in the ambient air condenses on
this surface and the air is dehumidified. The gaseous coo-
lant, which is subjected to low pressure, is sucked in by
the compressor and the cooling cycle starts all over again.
