The processor does not evaluate the absolute value of the accumulator voltage,
but the speed at which the voltage increases during boost charge (1st derivation
of accumulator voltage). Shortly after the reversal point of the derivation has been
reached, it determines the switch-off point for 98% of full charge. This switch-off
point clearly occurs before the maximum of the accumulator voltage curve (delta
peak), thus reliably avoiding overcharge of the accumulator (and so its damage)
which may occur with delta-peak chargers. The charging LED starts to flash, and
the transition charging begins.
3.) Transition charging
If less than 100% of the full charge is required, the accumulator can be removed
at the start of transition charging and put to its intended use. However, if the
accumulator remains connected, the ReFLEX 200 multi device approaches 100%
full charge within two hours with reduced charging impulse frequency. The
intervals between the charging impulses are now extended to up to approx. 25
seconds. When full charge is reached, the device automatically changes to float
charging.
4.) Float charging
During float charging, only the natural self-discharge of the NiCd and NiMH
accumulators is compensated. The charging current corresponds to about 1/40 -
1/30 C. In float mode, the accumulator can remain connected to the charging
device for an unlimited time, but it should be monitored for safety reasons. The
green charging LED continues to flash approx. once a second. The intervals
between the charging impulses are extended to up to approx. 80 seconds.
