7. Charging the drive battery for the vehicle

As a general rule, the drive battery is empty on delivery and must be charged. Before a drive battery deliv-
ers its maximum power, several complete discharge and charge cycles are necessary.
The drive battery is charged using the supplied USB charger.
Caution!
Do not connect the USB charger to the USB port of a computer/notebook or USB hub because the current
is not high enough for charging.
Use, for example, a commercially available USB power adaptor that provides an output current of at least
2 A.
Only charge the NiMH drive battery using the supplied USB charger or alternatively using a high-quality
NiMH charger. Never use an unsuitable charger. Otherwise, there is a risk of fire and explosion!
Never recharge the rechargeable battery unattended.
Insert the drive battery for charging on a fixed base, e.g. a flagstone.
The supplied USB charger is only suitable for charging a 7-cell NiMH rechargeable battery (rated voltage
8.4 V). Never attempt to charge a different battery, as this may result in a fire or explosion!
Proceed as follows:
• Disconnect the drive battery from the vehicle, completely disconnect the plug. Remove the drive battery from the
vehicle.
• The drive battery has a two-pin Tamiya plug. Connect the drive battery using the two-pin plug with the correspond-
ing USB charger socket. Do not use any force.
• Connect the USB charger with a suitable USB power adaptor (output 5 V/DC, min. 2 A), then plug it into a mains
socket.
• A red LED on the USB charger indicates the charging status.
LED flashing = rechargeable battery is charging
LED is off = charging is complete (or no battery is connected)
With a completely empty rechargeable drive battery, the charging procedure lasts approximately 4 hours.
• Once the charging process has been completed, disconnect the NiMH drive battery from the USB charger. Discon-
nect the USB charger from the power supply.
