The OAP (Opto-Auto-Pilot) automatic stabilising system is designed
for two-axis and three-axis fixed-wing model aircraft. An optical
sensor is used to stabilise the horizontal flight attitude of the model
around the longitudinal (roll) and transverse (pitch) axes. The
stabilisation system can be adjusted from the transmitter, enabling
the pilot to fine-tune its effect to suit the prevailing weather conditions
and his own personal preferences.
System components
The Opto-Auto-Pilot can be operated with any Graupner PPM, PCM
or iFS radio control system. The only requirement is that the
transmitter should have a vacant proportional function (i.e. one free
channel) for adjusting the OAP's sensitivity.
1.
Installing the optical sensor on the underside of the model
aircraft:
1.1
The OAP sensor should be installed as shown in the sketch.
1.2
The sensor must be situated exactly parallel to the model
aircraft's roll and pitch axes (see picture).
1.3
Ensure that the optical view of the sensor is not obstructed by
any of the model aircraft's components.
1.4
The OAP must be securely fixed. If it should come loose or fall
off, you will invariably lose control of the model aircraft!
2.
Position of the OAP sensor:
2.1
If the OAP sensor is installed on the underside of the fuselage,
it should be positioned parallel to the tailplane.
