8.2 Aerosol characteristics in accordance with EN 13544-1

8.2.1 Determination of particle size
Fill the nebuliser with 5ml Xylocain (4% lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate)
and run the nebuliser on the Next Generation cascade impactor (NGI) until the
aerosol emerges irregularly. Then continue running for one more minute.
Cumulative mass distribution for the PARI TIA nebuliser S at 1.1bar and
1.7bar operating pressure (4% lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate):

8.2.2 Determination of the aerosol output and aerosol output rate
Aerosol output (quantity of aerosol output by the nebuliser system for
a specified fill volume)
Fill the nebuliser with 5ml of a 4% Xylocain solution (40mg lidocaine hydrochlo-
ride monohydrate per ml). Attach the nebuliser to the PARI Compass Breath
Simulator until the aerosol becomes irregular, then one more minute.
