A high rate of deposition is achieved by taking a series of breaths in rapid suc-
cession ("panting"). After panting five times, it is recommended to take one or
two breaths normally.
These two breathing sequences are repeated until the medication has been
completely nebulised. For better compliance, the interrupter button should be
depressed during the panting cycle (continuous nebulising).
A change in the noise made by the nebuliser indicates that the medication has
been used up. The attending doctor should check whether aerosol can still be
seen escaping from the nebuliser (keep interrupter button depressed).
Stop treatment as soon as the aerosol emerges irregularly.
