Electrical Installation
Do not connect or disconnect with power on!
Switch off the drive for at least two minutes before disconnecting, or connecting the motor.
Do not disconnect or connect the cables with the power on.
The Unimotor contains a permanent magnet rotor. A voltage is generated at the motor terminals
DANGER
when the rotor is turned. If the motor is back driven for any reason then care must be taken to
High Voltage
avoid electric shocks.
The Unimotor typically operates at a switching voltage of 600-700V dc, even when stationary.
Ensure the earth wire is correctly fitted to the motor connecting pin and earth points.
Connect an earth bond strap, minimum 4mm², from the machine to the motor body.
Fit the strap to the front flange of the motor in such a way that it will not interfere with the mounting of the
motor.
The machine builder must ensure that the fitting does not become loose due to machine vibration.
Motors and drives comply with EMC directive for machines,
However the machine builder has to be aware of the system and its operation and carry out independent testing
on the final machine.
ATEX Unimotors UM and fm special conditions: Are to be used with Control Techniques SP size 1, 2 and 3,
Digitax ST, M'Ax and MultiAx drives only. The Control Techniques drives maintain control over the operating
temperature of the Unimotors by monitoring current flow electronically. The motor is not fitted with any safety
devices. When the drive is installed the user should conduct a hazard assessment and ensure that the requirements
of Clause 1.5.1 of the ATEX Directive are met.
