Drain Line (L)
Install the drain line so that the pump housing is always completely filled with hydraulic fluid. Always use the
upper port. It should lead directly into the tank separated from the other return lines.
The end of the line must be underneath the fluid level in the tank, even at the lowest fluid level.
The distance from the suction line should be as large as possible. Do not install a filter, cooler or non-return
valve in the drain line with maximum length of 3m. Pressure at the drain line is maximum 2 bar absolute (1
bar above atmosphere) for open loop.
For more information see:
Recommended outside diameter of the pipe used as a drain line:
RKP19: 15 mm
RKP32 and RKP45: 18 mm
RKP63, RKP80, RKP100 and RKP140: 22 mm
RKP250: 35mm

Flushing the Pump Housing
For pump sizes with displacement 63, 80, 100 cm³/rev :
If the radial piston pump is operated for longer time periods at low pressure in dead end mode
(t > 15 min, p < 30 bar, Q = 0 l/min) it is necessary to flush the pump to dissipate the heat!
For pump sizes with displacement 140 cm³/rev and 250 cm³/rev a flushing the housing is
absolutely necessary!
Flushing flow:
For pump size with displacement 63, 80 and 100cm³/rev flush the housing with 4 to 6 l/min
For pump size with displacement 140 cm³/rev flush the housing with 6 to 8 l/min.
For pump size with displacement 250 cm³/rev flush the housing with 10 to 12 l/min.
The supply of the radial piston pump with the quantity of flushing fluid required for the
respective mode of operation and the respective pump size is in the responsibility of the
operator and must be ensured by the operator. The information in this user manual must be
observed for the safe operation of the radial piston pump.
The supply of flushing fluid can be realized, e.g. by an additional pump or by tapping off
the cooling or filter circuit.
The regulation of the amount of flushing flow can be realized by selecting a suited
additional pump with respective displacement, or by appropriate orifices, or flow control
valves.
DANGER
Danger of explosion due to impermissible overheating of the radial piston pump!
Insufficient flushing can lead to impermissible overheating of the pump, so that the
temperature exceeds the maximum certified temperature classes.

Chap. 12.6 Supplemental Documentation
Radial piston pumps are to be flushed according to the information given in the
user manual!
See, Chap. 17.5 Flushing the Pump Housing
In order to ensure the correct operation of the flushing mode, the leakage oil
temperature must be monitored. If the leakage oil temperature exceeds 100°C
the pump must be automatically shut down.
