13.3.2.
Temperature Monitoring of the Pump
To avoid critical surface temperatures of the pump in relation to hazardous environments, depending on the
pump size the temperature monitoring of the pump is necessary. By monitoring the temperature of the
leakage fluid the maximum operation temperature of the pump is to be determined.
For operation of RKP63, RKP80, RKP100, RKP140 and RKP250 within Category 2 (Zone 1 and
Zone 21) areas the temperature monitoring of the leakage fluid of the pump is mandatory.
If the measured temperature of the leakage fluid is higher than 100°C the pump must be put
out of operation. In this case the state, out of operation of the pump, must be guaranteed.
The measuring point must be placed directly at the leakage oil discharge port "L". The
measuring must be done directly within the leakage flow rate.
The distance of the temperature measuring point in the drain line must be placed not more
than 30cm away from the leakage oil discharge port "L" of the pump.
The components used for monitoring the leakage temperature require Ignition Protection
Level – IPL 1 according to Standard DIN EN 13463-6.
The temperature monitoring must be checked regularly for accuracy and function according
to the requirements of the protection level IPL 1.
In the event of a failure of a safety device, the restart of the radial piston pump must only be
possible after the interruption of a restart interlock in accordance with the requirements for the
protection level IPL 1.
