Battery Tester 043285
Preparation of the test
Before connecting the tester, clean the battery terminals or side terminals
with a wire brush and a mixture of baking soda and water. If batteries
with side terminals are tested, attach terminal adapters and tighten them.
IMPORTANT: Do not use steel screws as measuring points. If no pole
adapters are fitted or if worn or dirty pole adapters are used, the test results
may be falsified. To protect against damage, the pole adapters must not be
tightened by more than a quarter turn with a spanner.
When testing a battery in the vehicle, switch off all additional consumers,
remove the ignition key and close the doors. If the vehicle was running
before the test, switch on the headlights to remove the surface charge
from the battery. Leave the bat- tery at rest for one minute before starting
the test.
Connecting the test device
Connect the red clamp to the positive pole (+) and the black clamp
to the negative pole (-).
Move the clamps forward and backward to ensure a good
connection. Both clamps must be tight on both sides before starting
the test. If the contact is poor, the message CHECK CONNECTION
or WIGGLE CLAMP is displayed. In this case, clean the battery
terminals and reconnect the clamps.
Preferably, the tests should be carried out at the battery terminals.
If the battery is not accessible, you can also perform the tests at the
bypass pole. In this case, however, the display may show a lower
power value than the actual one.
Battery test
When you connect the tester to the battery for the first time, the tester
works as a voltmeter until you start the test by pressing ENTER.
After pressing ENTER, use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to scroll
through the parameters and press ENTER to select. If messages are
displayed during the test, refer to the descriptions in the section 'Test
messages' on page 12.
