√ Check all connections to and from the generator,
especially the connection to the battery. In
case of loose or badly corroded connections,
clean or replace the cable and repeat the test.
√ If the belts and the connections are OK, replace
the alternator. (On older vehicles with an
externally mounted voltage regulator, it may be
sufficient to replace only the regulator).
The generator does not provide enough power to
supply the electrical consumers of the system and
to charge the battery.
√ Check the V-belt to see if the generator pulley
rotates. If necessary, replace a broken or
slipping belt and repeat the test.
√ Check the connections between the generator
and the battery. In case of loose or badly
corroded connections, clean or replace the
cable and repeat the test.
The voltage supplied by the generator to the
battery exceeds the normal range.
√ Check that there are no loose connections and
that the master connection is OK. If there are
no connection problems, replace the generator.
Since most alternators have the voltage
regulator integrated, the alternator must be
replaced completely. On older vehicles with an
externally mounted voltage regulator, it may be
sufficient to replace only the regulator.
