PLAYBACK
MUSIC SEARCH OPERATION
Press the MS/SKIP switch and the fast forward ( >> ) or re-
wind switch ( << ). While the tape is being fast forwarded or
rewound, the deck will be automatically set to the playback
mode
when an "unrecorded
blank"
lasting 4 seconds or
more between programs on the tape is detected. The whole
operation is called ''music search," and it is extremely useful
for finding the start of programs on the tape.
ls
Press the MS/SKIP switch. The MS/SKIP indicator will
come on.
Observe which of the indicators showing the direction of
the tape has lighted and press the fast forward switch
( >> ) or rewind switch ( << ).
Operation in forward mode
Press the fast forward switch ( >> ) to listen to the pro-
gram following the one now playing. Press the rewind
switch ( << ) to listen once more to the program
now
playing.
Operation in reverse mode
Press the rewind switch ( << ) to listen to the program
following the one now playing. Press the fast forward
switch (>> ) to listen once more to the program
now
playing.
When the unrecorded blank between programs has been
detected, the fast forward or rewind operation is stopped
and the unit is placed in the playback mode.
With the MS/SKIP switch ON, and the deck in the
record mode, when the fast forward switch ( >> ) or
rewind switch ( << ) is pressed , an unrecorded blank
between programs will be detected and the deck will
be placed in the stop mode. This is a good counter-
measure when recording has been started in error.
The
music
search
function
still works
when
the
MS/SKIP switch is pressed during a fast forward or
rewind operation.

SKIP SEARCH OPERATION
Press the MS/SKIP
switch and one of the PLAY switches
(<PLAY>). When an "unrecorded blank" lasting 12 or more
seconds in the playback mode is found, the deck is set to the
fast forward or reverse mode and when the next program is
detected, the deck is set again to the playback mode. This
operation is called "skip search" and it is useful when listen-
ing
1.
NOTE:
to tapes with long unrecorded blanks.
Press the MS/SKIP switch. The MS/SKIP indicator will
now light.
Press the PLAY switch to play back the tape. When an
unrecorded blank lasting 12 or more seconds is reached
on the tape during playback, the deck is automatically set
to the fast forward or rewind mode, depending on the
direction in which the tape is traveling. The start of the
next program is now found, and the deck is again set to
the playback mode.
If, after fast forwarding or rewinding, no program is
found until the end of the tape, the direction of the
tape will be reversed at the end and playback will start
automatically from the start of the first program on
the other side of the tape.
If there are unrecorded blanks lasting between about
13 and 15 seconds between programs, the next pro-
gram may be reached at the instant when the mode is
switched between playback and fast forward or re-
wind and, as a result, this program may be skipped
and playback may begin at the next program. Similar-
ly, when the mode is switched from playback to fast
forward or rewind and then next program is reached
immediately,
this program
may
be
skipped
and
playback may begin at the next program.
The skip search function may not work properly with
tapes containing very soft sounds lasting 12 or more
seconds in programs.
