TROUBLESHOOTING

Tape does not travel.
® Power cord is loose or unplugged.
e Plug the power cord firmly into an AC
outlet.
e The PAUSE ( BE ) switch is pressed.
© Press the PAUSE ( BE ) switch again.
e Cassette tape is improperly loaded.
® Load the cassette tape properly.
No sound.
e Connections with amplifier are incorrect.
® Check connections, and reconnect loose or
disconnected cords.
e No sound is recorded on tape.
e Replace with pre-recorded tape.
® The amplifier volume controls are
incorrectly adjusted.
e Set amplifier controls to correspond to
signal level of tape.

Unit will not record.
e Accidental erasure prevention tabs on
cassette are broken off.
® Replace with another cassette, or cover the
tab holes with adhesive tape.
® Heads are dirty.
® Clean the heads.
High frequency sound
is not reproduced.
e Heads are dirty.
e Clean the heads.
e Non-Dolby recorded tape is played back
with Dolby ON.
e Set the Dolby NR switch OFF.
Sound is distorted.
e Recorded program itself is distorted.
e Replace with another cassette tape.
Sound wavers or
speeds up.
® The heads, pinch roller and capstan are
dirty, or the cassette tape is wound too
tightly.
e Clean heads, capstan, and pinch roller.
Rewind tape on fast forward or rewind.
High noise level.
® Heads are magnetized.
e Demagnetize the heads.

e Using a tape with a high noise level.
® Use another tape.
® Loose cord connections.
® Check each INPUT and OUTPUT cord and
connect firmly.
High-range sounds are
over emphasized.
e Tape recorded using Dolby NR system
and being played back with Dolby NR
switch OFF.
® Set Dolby NR switch ON.
No erasing.
® Heads are dirty.
e Clean the heads.
Music search/skip
does not operate.
e The non-recorded interval between
programs is not 4 seconds (12 seconds in
skip) long.
® Use a cassette with non-recorded intervals
of at least 4 seconds (12 seconds in skip).
Door will not open.
e Mechanism is not at stop position.
® Press the stop ( æ ) switch.
e Switch on power again.

DEW CONDENSATION
When the unit is moved from a cold to a warm room, or a
quick temperature change occurs, condensation will form on
the mechanical parts affecting performance of the unit. In
such cases, leave the unit in a warmer atmosphere for ap-

hour,
or gradually
change
the
room
proximately
temperature.
NOTE:
When locating the tape deck, do not place a cloth over the
top or block the ventilation openings in any other way.
