@ REC indicator (@)
This lights when the unit is set to the recording mode.
@ REC switch (@)
Press this switch to start tape recording. The REC ( @) in-
dicator will light. The switch cannot be placed in the ON
position if the accidental erasure prevention tabs on the
cassette have been broken off, or if no cassette is in the
unit.
@
MS/SKIP indicator
This lights during a music search or skipping operation.
© PAUSE indicator ( ss )
This lights when the unit is set to the pause mode.
© PAUSE switch ( ss )
Press this switch once to temporarily stop tape travel. Press
again to release from the pause mode.
@
REC MUTE indicator (Q)
This indicator flashes when the REC MUTE (O) switch is
pressed to create an automatic 4 second non-recorded por-
tion. When a non-recorded portion longer than 4 seconds is
created, the indicator changes from flashing to steadily
lighted.
@ REC MUTE (©) switch
When the unit is in the recording mode, if this switch is
pressed, 4 seconds of non-recorded interval will be created
automatically. This can be used for eliminating unwanted
portions during recording, or for producing an appropriate
non-recorded
interval between programs.

Be careful not to press this swich except when necessary.
@ STOP switch ( æ )
Press this switch to stop the tape travel and to release the
operating switches.

EJECT button
The
cassette
door opens
when
this button
is pressed.
When it is pressed while the tape is traveling or during a
recording
or playback
standby
operation,
noise will be
generated and possible malfunctioning may occur. Even if
pressed, the cassette door will not open.
NOTE:
/t may not be possible to eject a cassette tape when the
power is switched off while a tape is running inside the
tape deck. In a case like this, press the POWER switch to
the in position.
© TAPE COUNTER
The numbers change as the tape is running. Tape position
is indicated with a three-column digital counter.
@ COUNTER RESET button
Depress this button to reset the tape counter display to 000.

DOLBY indicators (DOLBY NR)
These light when the DOLBY NR switch is set to ON.
[B]: This lights when the B type Dolby noise reduction
system is operating.
[C]: This lights when the C type Dolby noise reduction
system is operating.
@ DOLBY NR switch
When the Dolby NR (Noise Reduction) system is used to
record a tape, or when playing back a tape recorded on
Dolby NR system, the switch on the right is pushed to the
ON position
(mm). There are two types of Dolby NR
System, B-type and C-type. Use the switch on the left to
choose the type. To choose B-type, the switch should be in
OFF position ( JE
To choose C-type, the switch should
be in ON position ( mu ).
When
playing a tape which
has not been recorded
on
Dolby, set the switch on the right so that it is in OFF posi-
tion ( HL)

DIRECTION indicators
These show the direction in which the tape is traveling. The
right-hand indicator lights when the tape is moving forward
(from left to right); the left-hand indicator lights when it is
moving backward (from right to left).

Playback switches ( < PLAY > )
Press these switches for tape playback. The tape is played
back in the forward direction when the ' >" switch is
pressed and in the reverse direction when the " < " switch
is pressed.
These switches can be used during recording to select the
direction in which the tape is traveling.
Fast forward/Rewind
switches
( << FAST >> )
When the '' >> '' switch is pressed without the MS/SKIP
switch having been pressed, the tape is fast forwarded. The
tape is rewound when the ' << '' switch is pressed. When
the MS/SKIP switch is pressed, a music search operation is
carried out in the direction corresponding to the switch
which has been pressed.
