Dynamic Alignment
Ensure the patient is familiar with the functioning of the device.
Ensure the patient can activate and deactivate the geometric lock.
Carrying out the initial dynamic assessment is important for getting the
patient to feel more confident in relying on the prosthesis. The best way
to acquire a dynamic alignment is by having a symmetric gait pattern.
Any deviations will be more pronounced in running gait.
1. Evaluate the patient's level of voluntary control, the patient should be
able to maintain knee stability.
2. Use hip extension to maintain stability into stance.
3. Train the patient to maintain normal step length on the sound side.
Caution: For safety, please make initial assessments and adjustments
with the patient standing between parallel bars.
Swing Control (Fig. 3)
The hydraulic system is supplied in its basic setting.
In the basic setting, Valves "F" and "H" are both opened by 3/4 turn.
Valve "E" is opened by 1½ turns.
Adjusting the Flexion and Extension valves
The following valves can be adjusted:
• Valve "F": Affects swing flexion resistance above 60°.
• Valve "H": Affects swing flexion resistance from 0° - 60°.
• Valve "E": Affects swing extension resistance.
Start with adjusting the flexion with the patient walking slowly and at
faster walking speeds.
For each adjustment, turn the valve in small increments of about a ¼ of a
turn. Always check the result right after each adjustment step.
Possible observations and actions to take are outlined in the following:
• If the patient is walking fast and you observe excessive heel rise,
increase the swing flexion resistance by turning Valve "F" to the right
until heel rise is normalized.
• To smooth flexion resistance changes between 0° and 60°, turn Valve
"H" to the right or left to increase or decrease the resistance,
respectively.
Afterwards, adjust the extension to harmonize the gait.
• Increase the swing extension resistance by turning Valve "E" to the
right until terminal impact at full extension is reduced. Patient should
feel a slight bump at full extension.
• Fine tune Valves "F" and "E" until a smooth and secure gait pattern is
achieved for slow and fast walking speeds.
Caution: The valves should never be fully closed. Over tightening valves
or flexing knee with all valves completely closed may damage valves.
Warning: Valves adjustment must always allow for complete extension of
the knee. Excessive swing extension resistance will prevent knee from
moving into full extension and may compromise stance security.
USAGE
Cleaning and care
Wipe the device with a soft cloth. Do not use solvents.
